Nitrous Oxide Dental Sedation

If your little one only feels slightly anxious at the dentist’s office, then nitrous oxide sedation could be just the thing they need. We simply place a small mask over their nose, and they’ll begin inhaling the “laughing gas,” which makes their worries melt away. Once we’ve finished their treatment, we remove the mask and have your child breathe regular air again. The sedative’s effects should dissipate quickly, allowing them to return to school right after their appointment.

Oral Conscious Dental Sedation

Does your child need more extensive dental work done? Are they severely nervous about sitting in the dental chair? If so, then Dr. Justin or Dr. Sage can administer a potent anti-anxiety medication before their procedure, which puts your child in a state of deep relaxation. They’ll most likely remain awake the whole time and should be able to respond to simple requests, but their memory of the treatment will probably be fuzzy.

General Anesthesiology

Also known as “sleep dentistry,” general anesthesiology is ideal for children who have certain special needs, intense dental phobia, or several complex procedures they need to complete in a single visit. With this method, a child can literally sleep through their entire treatment and wake up afterward with no memory of what transpired. Before we recommend general anesthesiology for your child, we’ll review their complete medical history to make sure it will be fully safe. During the procedure itself, we’ll also monitor their heart rate, breathing, and other vitals at all times.

If your child’s needs would best be met in a hospital environment, both Dr. Justin and Dr. Sage are credentialed with hospital privileges at Children’s Health Medical Center. There, our dentists work closely with pediatric anesthesiologists to confirm that your child remains comfortably asleep as their dental treatment is safely completed. You can rest easy with the knowledge that your little one has a team of expert medical professionals working in tandem to deliver care that is unmatched in safety and quality.
